Black whale beached on Maret, Koh Samui
This black whale beached on Maret, Koh Samui today, it was 3 meters long and approx 400kg with an empty stomach but it was pregnant, the baby whale measured just under 30cm. Sadly it passed away.
Five years ago one species was supposedly beached on Koh Tao
, but this seems to be the first time this whale has been seen beached around Koh Samui
. Maret is the general Lamai
Sometimes Koh Samui dive boats spot sperm whales in their trip out to the dive sites. These encounters are however not very often. Having one species beached on Koh Samui is rare and it's very sad to know that she was pregnant and both Mum and baby whale passed away.
The black whale beached on Maret, Koh Samui is a rare and sad occasion. Hopefully next time I will be able to see a black whale alive!
