The PADI IDC on Phuket for July 2016 has hit the half way mark and we're moving on full ahead and with full steam. This PADI IDC is in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' on Phuket, Thailand and is conducted at the Dive Asia training facilities at Kata Big Rock.

We covered lots of ground with exams, confined water and classroom presnetations by me and the candidates and open water is still coming and some more confined water practice. All this is also laced with plenty of workshops, in the classroom, confined water and in open water. Plenty of topics and material to learn for the candidates.

We still have a few more days to go and the EFR Instructor course is also still on the schedule, before the candidates will hit the PADI IE this coming weekend of August 6th and 7th.
Today, the PADI Regional Manager of Thailand West should honor us with a visit as well, Andy Auer is swinging by later today to meet the candidates and possibly have a short speech for them.
PADI IDC on Phuket for July 2016 has hit the half way mark; Annesa practicing Rescue exercise # 7, 'Unconscious diver on the surface' during one of the many confined water dives, with Kui as a victim
We will keep you informed about the candidates progress during this PADI IDC andf how they fare during the PADI next weekend, so stay tuned!
If you're interested in participating in one of my PADI IDC programs, the next opportunities will be 23rd August and 27th September on Phuket, Thailand in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia', followed by monthly IDC programs here at this location and come 14th September I plan to be back in Moalboal in the Philippines for a PADI IDC program in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure'.

Talk on Decompression Illness at the Phuket hyperbaric chamber
Last Wednesday there was a Talk on Decompression Illness at the Phuket hyperbaric chamber, presented by Kevin Morgan, the HST Co-ordinator and he is also a DMT and REMT.
In this case, for you divers, DMT doesn't stand for 'Divemaster trainee' or 'Divemaster in training' but it rather means 'Dive Medical Technician' and REMT means 'Remote Emergency Medical Technician'.
These are two very good ratings to possess, and are almost mandatory if you work full time at a hyperbaric chamber. It doesn't qualify you as a nurse or doctor but they are intense courses and upon completion you can deal with a lot of incidents, if needed, being guided and informed by phone by profesionals.
Talk on Decompression Illness at the Phuket hyperbaric chamber; Kevin at the start of the talk
Let's get back on track though and the talk held by Kevin was very informative and interesting. It was long, well over two hours but it remained intersting all the time and it never hurts to continue your education and stay interested and the presentation by Kevin also covered some new topics for me.
The presentation was of special interest to me since I'm involved at the local hyperbaric chamber on Koh Samui, which is owned and operated by the same company as on Phuket, the SSS Recompression Chamber Network, with outlets in various countries, besides Thailand also in Mexico, Belize, Zanzibar and the Galapagos islands and their main office is in the USA.
Many topics were touched upon that I knew already and probably should know in my capacity but as already mentioned, there were also new topics covered and I learned some new things.

There was a fairly good turn out with around 14 interested people visiting the presentation that was held at the classroom facilities of the chamber, located directly across the road, opposite the actual hyperbaric chamber.
Since I am teaching a PADI IDC on Phuket, I invited the candidates and we all went together to the presentation, which was received well, not only by my PADI IDC candidates but by all present.
Talk on Decompression Illness at the Phuket hyperbaric chamber; The group of visitors, well most of them and Kevin all in front of the actual chamber
Considering the size of the Phuket dive industry, I was hoping that more people would show up for the presentation, hopefully dive shop managers and individual instructors will take future opportunities to bring more people to these kind of presentations. It's a part of the dive industry that is very important and the knowledge gained may help you one day.
Thanks to SSS Recompression Chamber Network, especially the local chamber on Phuket and his staff, Kevin and Paul, for giving this opportunity.
A review with some pictures of the local Phuket hyperbaric chamber wil follow shortly.

PADI IE in Moalboal, Philippines for July 2016 was successfull
The PADI IE in Moalboal, Philippines for July 2016 was successfull indeed, and three out of the four PADI IDC candidates of the July 2016 PADI IDC in Moalboal in the Philippines in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure' are now PADI Instructors but one of them, as anticipated, has to give it a new try at the theory exams and the standards exam but was susccessfull in all other parts of this PADI IE.
PADI IE in Moalboal, Philippines for July 2016 was successfull; from left to right; Froi, Camille (PADI Course Director), Irish (PADI IDCS), Johan (PADI MI), Nils, Colin and Jimmy
All gave it their best and nerves went through the roof but eventually all was good and we have a very good result for all the candidates. Froi can now concentrate on studying the theory and general standards exam at his own pace, the next PADI IE won't be until September, It's what we discussed at the end of the PADI IDC and before the start of this PADI IE and I'm confident that he can make it in September and will be successfull.
For the other three, life has taken a new turn and they are PADI instructors, congratulations to all four of you and well meant 'well done' to all of you! You put the hard effort and study in and you succeeded!
If you're interested in participating in one of my up and coming PADI IDC's, the next options are monthly PADI IDC's on Phuket, Thailand in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' starting 23rd August and 27th September and 14th September I will be back for a new program in Moalboal in the Philippines.
See you there,

Diving in Moalboal, Philippines
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines is awesome. During the PADI IDC that I conducted there in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure', it was confimred one more time. We did a few dives during the PADI IDC and here are some pictiures of the tings that we saw. No turtle pictures, although we saw them also on every dive!
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines; An 'Elysia Marginata' nudibranch, spotted by Johan, the manager at 'Neptune Diving Adventure', a first for me to see this nudibranch. It's always great to see soemthing for the first time, it's what makes diving exciting for me, so I was very happy to spot this specific Elysia Marginata nudi!
This time around I post a lot of small critters, macro stuff, The house reef is the only location I dived at during my recent stay, but as the pictures can tel, that is already exciting enough. There are various other locations you can visit by boat, but the house reef is just 20 or 30m meters from the dive center, you just put on your gear and walk into the water and dive!
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines; A 'Chromodoris Magnifica' nudibranch on the house reef, a very nice and colorful nudibranch and fairly common around these shores.
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines; A gastropod family member, the 'Coriocella nigra'. The gastropod class is the large taxonomic class within the phylum Mollusca of snails and slugs. A rare sighting for me.
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines; A 'Cyclocoeloma tuberculata' crab during a night dive on the house reef at Panagsama beach near Moalboal, where 'Neptune Diving Adventure' is based.
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines; A 'Camposcia Retusa' decorator crab. This is a fairly big crab and it sticks all kind of sponges and other parts ot finds on the reef, on it's body. Sometimes they also stick ocean trash like cigarette butts and the like onto their body.
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines; Another first for me, a 'Pleurobranchus grandi' kind of nudibranch. It's massive compared to the 'normal' nudibranch size, this species had a 30cm long body and it was about 10cm high. A very unusual nudibranch.
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines; A 'Dromiidea' or sponge crab. A very unusual sight this amazing and big crab. They can be spotted on a regular base during night dives at the house reef. The red part of the picture, is a sponge that the crab carries on his back.
Diving in Moalboal, Philippines; No dive is complete in Moalboal without seeing the sardine ball. It's an amzing live picture that keeps changing direction. A spectacular sight and if you're lucky, you might see jacks and tunas hunting the sardines. It get's really lucky if the hunting happens with a Thresher shark!
Hopefully these pictures convince you of the qaulity of diving in Moalboal, Philippines! I had a blast and I can highly and warmly recommend diving there and ideally, use PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure' as your dive center of choice. They offer a great relaxed atmosphere and have great and expereinced tour guides.
Enjoy the house reef and all the other dive sites on offer!

PADI IDC for July/August 2016 on Phuket has started
The PADI IDC for July/August 2016 on Phuket has started in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' on Phuket.
It's a small and intimate PADI IDC on Phuket with just two candidates but it allows for plenty of personal interaction and attention.
Today we completed a lot of introductionary stuff, the red tape was sorted out, the physics exam was tackled, a presentation by me was given and we practiced the skill circuit in confined water plus rescue exercise # 7, the unconscious diver at the surface, at the pool at Kata Big Rock.
Ee just bit the head off today, there's plenty of more work to come, for the candidates and for me and we will take one step at a time, day by day.
As usual it's an international affair, with Annesa coming from the Seychelles and Kui from Thailand and a Dutch Platinum PADI Course Director.
PADI IDC for July/August 2016 on Phuket has started; Annesa and Kui during their physics exam, four more theory exams are to follow tomorrow; physiology, RDP, General skills and Equipment.
It's also not many times that I already start a brand new PADI IDC before the last one is completed. In Moalboal in the Philippines, the four candidates of the July PADI IDC in Moalboal started their PADI IE today. This one of the few times that this happens. All the best to Froi, Nils, Jimmy and Colin!
There will be more updates on the July-August 2016 PADI IDC on Phuket, so stay tuned.
If you're interested in participating in one of my up and coming PADI IDC's you can do so during a PADI IDC on Phuket, Thailand with start dates of 23rd August and 27th September in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' and on 14th September in Moalboal in the Philippines.

PADI IDC July 2016 in Moalboal, Philippines has been completed
That's right, the PADI IDC July 2016 in Moalboal, Philippines has been completed and so has Irish's PADI IDCS course all in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure' at Panagsama Beach near Moalboal in the Philippines. I find myself already back in Cebu City, writing this blog, since tomorrow morning I will leave very early for a flight to Manila and on to Bangkok and back home on Koh Samui, since early next week, 26th July I already start a next PADI IDC on Phuket, Thailand.
The 26th July is also the day the PADI IE starts in Moalboal, making this is the first time that I will not physically be able to attend a PADI IE in the Philippines. The fours candidates are in good hands however with PADI Master Instructor Johan, who staffed again during this PADI IDC and with brand new PADI IDCS Instructor Irish.
PADI IDC July 2016 in Moalboal, Philippines has been completed, from left to right; Froi, Camille (Platinum PADI Course Director), Irish (PADI IDCS), Johan (PADI MI), Nils, Colin and Jimmy, all lined up in front of PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure'
The course itself was fun and we managed a lot of work, workshops, presentations, exams, confined and open water dives, after hours extra help all in a nine day period. It was intense as well! Three out four candidates should do well during the PADI IE, Colin, Jimmy and Nils but Froi is still struggling with the theory and the standards exams. There is progress each day and he met performance requirements but we are not 100% sure how he will do during the PADI IE exams. He is being helped though, each day during the IDC and until the PADI IE will start and he is putting a lot of effort into it, so we hope for the best for him. If it would be decided on attitude, he would pass with flying colors!
It's going to be exciting, especially being so far away.
It's going to be exciting, especially being so far away.

PADI IDC for July 2016 in Moalboal, Philippines has started
PADI IDC for July 2016 in Moalboal, Philippines has started with Froi, Colin, Jimmy and Nils sweating it out over the theory exams under a supervisory eye of Irish who is participating in the PADI IDCS Instructor course
Today we started with the introduction, taking care of the paperwork and some of the theory exams in the morning and the afternoon was spent in confined water practicing the skill circuit and rescue exercise # 7. More of this to follow tomorrow and slowly we will drift into the rythm of the IDC with all it's presentations by me and the candidates plus all the workshops, pool and confined water work and the open water dives. PADI IDCS Course started in Moalboal, Philippines
We're back in business and the PADI IDCS Course started in Moalboal, Philippines today in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Resort 'Neptune Diving Adventure' with Irish who completed her PADI IDC with us back in December 2014, also here in Moalboal.
In the emantime she made sure to get her PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer certification sorted and now it's tme to kick off her PADI Instructor Development Course Staff Instructor training or PADI IDCS course.
Irish watching the PADI IDCS course evaluation videos
Today was a busy day with presnetations by me, watching course evaluation videos and doing theory exams and a generl standards and procedures exam. A PADI skill circuit, a confined water presentation and a classroom presentation are to follow over the next two days.
She doesn't have to sit through the PADI IE again but after she met her performance requirements for the PADI IDCS course, she can kick back and see the PADI IDC process through different yes, those of an expreinced PADI OWSI and MSDT, without the stress of a PADI IE waiting at the end.
It should be an interesting program or course for her during which she should get some new perspectives on teaching and organizing courses and it will be a bonus when she decides to go on a job hunt.
Come and join me for your own PADI IDCS course or PADI IDC, with PADI IDC programs scheduled to start 23rd August and 23rd August on Phuket, Thailand in conjunction with PADI CDC Center 'Dive Asia' and on 14th September I will be back in Moalboal in the Philippines.
