Yesterday I went to a PADI Course Director round table meeting on Koh Tao, Thailand during which meeting we were given a presentation by some very high ups in the PADI organisation.
Danny Dwyer, who was Director, Marketing & Business Development at the PADI Asia Pacific office, but recently was promoted to Vice President of Marketing, Sales, Field Services and Business Development at PADI Asia Pacific.
Mark Spiers was also there, Vice President, Sales, Field Services, Marketing & Business Development at PADI Europe, Middle East & Africa.
Kristin Valette, Vice President Marketing & Communications at PADI Americas was there as well.
With Drew Richardson yesterday on Koh Tao, the President and Chief Operations Officer for PADI Worldwide
Tim Hunt, Field Services Manager at PADI Asia Pacific and Gio Cacchione, PADI Regional manager for Thailand East completed the list of PADI staff who attended at this round table meeting. Not to forget some 25 to 30 PADI Course Director from Koh Tao, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui.
A heavily loaded PADI delegation at this PADI Course Director round table meeting on Koh Tao, Thailand but it was interesting and it always presents a good opportunity to meet all the PADI staff again and get some personal touches to my 'relationship' with them since I don't get to see them that often, let alone in such a high concentration.
As always, come and look me up for some more information about my up and coming PADI IDC programs, starting with 5th May on Koh Samui, Thailand followed by 18th May by Moalboal in the Philippines, followed by 10th June on Koh Samui, Thailand again and this is followed by 9th July for my first ever PADI IDC in Puerto Galera, Philippines.
See you there,

It's been two weeks since we completed the PADI Specialty Instructor Training April 2015 in Khao Lak, Thailand but it's not been forgotten! All participants of the April 2015 PADI IDC in Khao Lak, Thailand in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center ' Sea Dragon' took part in the Enriched Air Instructor specialty and a few participated in a variety of PADI Instructor level specialty training.
At the Similan islands
We started out with a trip to the Similan islands with Chloe, Jack and Kerstin for a day of Deep diving. On the fantastic MV Naam Sai, the day trip vessel of Sea Dragon, we had a comfortable ride over to the Similan island number five and seven.
Timed tasks and color changes underwater during the Deep Dive specialty
We started out with the deeper dive of the specialty at island number five, going down to almost 40 meters and circling a sunken, small tuna fishing trawler at depth, before comfortably ascending and doing our safety stops at 12, 9, 6 and 5 meters. A very enjoyable dive indeed, followed by a second deep dive at island number seven at the site referred to as 'West of Eden'.
Here we did a few tasks, required for the specialty training, including pressure related, timed and navigational tasks as well as observing color changes at depth.
Fish soup at the Boonsung wreck
Two great dives in great conditions with nice visibility, where we also met the 'Green Monster', a thermo cline (temperature and visibility drop) accompanied by a strong current at depth during the second dive.
White margin nudibranch at the Boonsung wreck
During day two, with Kerstin and Jack, we went over the Boonsung wreck for the Digital underwater photography instructor specialty. This dive site is what the divers in Khao Lak refer to as a local dive site, it's about half an hour by car and 45 minutes to an hour by long tail away.
It's a great dive site and as one of the pictures above shows, it's like swimming or rather diving in fish soup at times, among big schools of jack fish and trevallies.
This dive site is also known for being able to spot lots of other fish, like honey comb eels and a wide variety of nudibranches. Just to name a few.
Gas Blending Instructors in the making
Last but not least we conducted a Gas Blender Instructor course with an almost completely different set of participants. Chloe, Ann, Andi, Nicha and Joerg participated in this course and we completed the tank fills with a state of the art Draeger compressor at PADI Dive Center Wetzone. Thanks Micha for allowing us to use the compressor!
Good dives and fun was had over a couple of days and we have a handful of new PADI Specialty Instructors on the block!

It's after completion of the PADI IDC at any location that I usually schedule the EFR Instructor course, so also for the EFR Instructor course in Khao Lak, and yesterday it was time for this course.
After a few presentations by me and an exam, we had our wicked ways with Little Annie and Baby Annie.
It was a relaxed and fun day. exactly what we needed before going in to today's PADI IE.

For my teaching efforts last year, in 2014, I received this '2014 Elite Instructor Award for 200 certifications' from PADI.
A big thanks goes out to all my students in 2014, you made this possible; all my PADI IDC-, IDCS-, specialty instructor and EFR Instructor students, but also students I certified at diver level, like side mount, Emergency Oxygen Provider or EFR level.
Not many years I reach the number of 200 certifications in a year, this is a little bit special. It was a good year! Thanks again to all involved and also to my family for having to be away so much from home!
Come and see me in one of my up coming PADI IDC programs, scheduled for this year, starting with 5th May on Koh Samui, Thailand, followed by 18th may in Moalboal in the Philippines, this is followed by 10th June on Koh Samui, Thailand and this is followed by 9th July in Puerto Galera in the Philippines with more programs to follow.

We're already on day number six in the current PADI IDC in Khao Lak, Thailand in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Sea Dragon' during the 126th PADI IDC that I teach and that means that this PADI IDC April 2015 in Khao Lak, Thailand passed the half way mark already.
We covered loads of topics already; various workshops, presentations in the classroom (by staff and candidates) and confined water, exams, breaks, great lunches, discussions and the staff survived all questions so far! Tomorrow the open water dives are coming up and next week, 8th and 9th April, the PADI IE will be on the schedule.
PADI IDC class of April 2015 in Khao Lak, Thailand at PADI 5* IDC Center 'Sea Dragon'
It's a great group and besides a steep learning curve for all involved, we're also having loads of fun during the course.
Did I already mention that once more we have a very international group? Candidates for this program come from Australia, Germany, Austria and the UK/Tanzania and staff is from the UK.
If your interested is peaked and you would like to become a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, just like the seven candidates in this current PADI IDC, my next programs are scheduled to start 5th May on Koh Samui, Thailand, followed by 18th May in Moalboal in the Philippines, which is followed by 10th June on Koh Samui, Thailand and this is followed by 9th July in Puerto Galera in the Philippines.
