Testimonial by Christophe from the Moalboal March 2015 IDC

Received this testimonial by Christophe from the recent March 2015 PADI IDC in Moalboal, Philippines, conducted in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure'.

Thanks for taking the time to write this Christophe, it's much appreciated and I'm looking forward seeing you soon in Moalboal!

Testimonial by Christophe from the Moalboal March 2015 IDC

Christophe after successfully completing the PADI IE with Marc, the PADI Examiner

Come and join me for one of my up and coming PADI IDC programs, starting with 5th May on Koh Samui, Thailand, which is followed by 18th May in Moalboal, Philippines, this is followed by 10th June on Koh Samui, Thailand again and on 9th July Puerto Galera in the Philippines.

Shark Guardian educational seminars in the Philippines, March 2015

During my recent visit in the Philippines, I could combine my visit with some Shark Guardian educational seminars in the Philippines, March 2015. This trip saw me for these three locations and seminars as a Shark Guardian Leader, sharing knowledge and awareness about sharks.
One seminars was on Malapascua and two were in Moalboal. It was good to be back on Malapascua again after a year or two and in general it gives a good feeling to be able to help in any form of Shark Conservation, and that is a lot of what Shark Guardian is about.

Part of the group of visitors at Malapascua after the seminar

On Malapascua the presentation was held at Exotic dive resort, the second Shark Guardian dive center in the Philippines. Some 25 divers and dive professionals showed up and another 15 local people were enjoying the seminar as well. It's good to talk about shark awareness in this Thresher shark haven. Thresher sharks have put Malapascua on the world map for diving, since almost each early morning dive at Monad Shoal these beautiful and gracious sharks can be spotted. In season there's also the opportunity to spot hammerhead sharks. Truly a shark diving destination.
This seminar was held 5th March.

During the presentation at Dolphin House at White Beach, Moalboal

The second out of three seminars was held 16th march at Dolphin House at White Beach near Moalboal. Dolphin House is one of the fighters against the whaleshark situation in Oslob, not too far away from Moalboal and one of the few resorts that actively discourages visiting there and they consequently don't offer any trips to Oslob.
Mostly German and Swiss guests of the resort plus dive staff visited the presentation. Among the dive staff are also two marine biologists who can present up to 30 different presentations to guests, covering all kinds of underwater animals and creatures, from turtles or frog fish, to the bigger fish, like sharks but also turtles are an option.

At Chili Bar at Panagsama beach near Moalboal

The last presentation of this trip was at Chili Bar, the same location as in December 2014. This time around we had 15 divers, dive professionals and even two non divers come and see us. The presentation was well received and I was glad I could share some shark awareness at all three locations. This presentation was held 19th march and was organized by 'Neptune Diving Adventure', the first Shark Guardian dive center in the Philippines.

Thanks to Shark Guardian (visit their website here), 'Exotic' on Malapascua, Dolphin House, Chili Bar and 'Neptune Diving Adventure'. Hope to see you and many more during my up and coming visits to the Philippines.

The PADI IE for March 2015 in Moalboal, Philippines very successful indeed! The candidates, Steve and Christophe discovered that IE really stands for 'It's Easy'!

It was a long and good road leading up to here and not too winding! With the PADI IDC and specialty instructor training in Moalboal for March 2015 in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure' out of the way, it was after all a fairly easy lead up to the actual PADI IE.

We dove on the Neptune House reef for most of the dives, exploring the deeper parts of the reef with the sardine ball accompanying us on each dive. We also visited Dolphin House which has excellent quality coral and no surprise here, this was for the Photography and Videography dive. We also went to Moalboal Bay for the Underwater Navigation dive, the same dive site which will be used during the PADI IE.
We enjoyed relaxed dives with lots of new things to learn and look out for with good visibility and hardly any current to speak of. Really enjoyable couple of days of diving, thank you guys!

The PADI IDC for March 2015 in Moalboal, Philippines has passed the half way mark already and time this time really flies! This PADI IDC I teach in conjunction with PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventure' in Moalboal, Philippines.

THA Underwater clean up at Chaweng Beach

It was time for our bi yearly THA Underwater clean up at Chaweng Beach, sponsored by the Koh Samui branch of the THA or Thai Hotel Association. We had all the whistles and bells, the THA organized a small boat and a garbage collection van with assistance of the Tessabaan or local municipality.

THA Underwater clean up at Chaweng Beach

All divers before the dive with Johan Ens, vice president of the THA Koh Samui chapter

Due to me working a lot outside of Koh Samui, I don't get to dive Chaweng beach as much as I used to do and I enjoy every opportunity I get or have. Today the visibility was good for local circumstances but sadly enough, we found heaps of trash, much more compared to some previous clean ups at the exact same location.

THA Underwater clean up at Chaweng Beach

Assorted trash underwater, including remains of fireworks

One great improvement was the small boat from the Tessabaan. Having this boat around allowed all of us to surface on a regular base and dump our filled to the rim bags into the boat or bring large pieces of trash to the surface, where the boat could collect it. A great improvement over previous clean ups, when we had to leave when our bags were full. Now we could go down again and keep collecting.

THA Underwater clean up at Chaweng Beach

Many plastic bags, like picture above, were collected

In total we filled 20 big trash bags, plus numerous other objects. We found over a hundred plastic bags in various sizes, about another hundred plastic and glass bottles, some 30 beverage cans, around 60 caps and lids, 26 pieces of clothing (ranging from shoe, flip flops to hats and t shirts), 35 cups and other assorted small plastic items like spoons, forks and knives. 38 food wrappers, a handful of pull tabs and 20 straws.

THA Underwater clean up at Chaweng Beach

The boat that helped us collect trash

Lots of plastic remains of fireworks, 17 parts of fishing nets, a light bulb, 2 plastic pallets and 22 pieces of rope, 3 crates and a dozen fishing lines, some cigarette filters and lighters, some 20 sunglasses, 10 or so goggles, 10 dive masks, 6 rice bags, a couple of plastic signs and cotton beach advertisement signs and some beach flags and buoys.
Oh yes, and a Go Pro camera in an underwater housing and one of the divers found a 1.000.-THB note!

THA Underwater clean up at Chaweng Beach

The 'collection' after the dive, 20 bags with approximately 20 kilos of trash

All in all we estimated that we found around 400 kilos of trash this morning and this was unfortunately just the tip of the iceberg!
So we can say that unfortunately we had a successful THA Underwater clean up at Chaweng Beach!
Thanks for everybody that showed up and helped out! Much appreciated and thanks to the THA for keeping this initiative going and supporting it, Al's Resort for allowing us to have access to the beach and Khun Praesert from the 'Chaweng Calamity Centre' and Chief Engineer at poppies Resort.
