During my recent visit in the Philippines, I could combine my visit with some Shark Guardian educational seminars in the Philippines, March 2015. This trip saw me for these three locations and seminars as a Shark Guardian Leader, sharing knowledge and awareness about sharks.
One seminars was on Malapascua
and two were in Moalboal
. It was good to be back on Malapascua again after a year or two and in general it gives a good feeling to be able to help in any form of Shark Conservation
, and that is a lot of what Shark Guardian is about.
Part of the group of visitors at Malapascua after the seminar
On Malapascua the presentation was held at Exotic dive resort, the second Shark Guardian dive center in the Philippines. Some 25 divers and dive professionals showed up and another 15 local people were enjoying the seminar as well. It's good to talk about shark awareness in this Thresher shark haven. Thresher sharks have put Malapascua on the world map for diving, since almost each early morning dive at Monad Shoal these beautiful and gracious sharks can be spotted. In season there's also the opportunity to spot hammerhead sharks. Truly a shark diving destination.
This seminar was held 5th March.
During the presentation at Dolphin House at White Beach, Moalboal
The second out of three seminars was held 16th march at Dolphin House at White Beach near Moalboal. Dolphin House is one of the fighters against the whaleshark situation in Oslob, not too far away from Moalboal and one of the few resorts that actively discourages visiting there and they consequently don't offer any trips to Oslob.
Mostly German and Swiss guests of the resort plus dive staff visited the presentation. Among the dive staff are also two marine biologists who can present up to 30 different presentations to guests, covering all kinds of underwater animals and creatures, from turtles or frog fish, to the bigger fish, like sharks but also turtles are an option.
At Chili Bar at Panagsama beach near Moalboal
The last presentation of this trip was at Chili Bar, the same location as in December 2014
. This time around we had 15 divers, dive professionals and even two non divers come and see us. The presentation was well received and I was glad I could share some shark awareness at all three locations. This presentation was held 19th march and was organized by 'Neptune Diving Adventure', the first Shark Guardian dive center in the Philippines.
Thanks to Shark Guardian (visit their website here
), 'Exotic' on Malapascua, Dolphin House, Chili Bar and 'Neptune Diving Adventure'. Hope to see you and many more during my up and coming visits to the Philippines
