Koh Dok Maai under pressure during a deep dive
4 days with 11 dives and 16 specialties lay ahead of us, with 2 days with 3 boat dives per day, a beach dive with 3 dives in a day and a beach day with 2 dives. Besides this busy schedule we also found time to complete the Emergency Oxygen provider instructor training.
King Cruiser wreck, Yoann gliding along
The first started off with a 3 dive trip to Koh Dok Maai for the first deep dive out of 2, the King Cruiser Wreck, which I dived 15 years ago for the last time, for the first wreck dive out of 2 and Shark Point for a Fish ID dive.
King Cruiser wreck, Tanya
The next day it was off on a boat again to Racha Noi for the second and deeper deep dive followed by a Digital Underwater photography dive and the second wreck dive at Racha Yai with penetration drills.
King Cruiser wreck, Tanya's reel
Day three brought us to the pool in the morning and to Kata Beach for a day of 3 side mount dives for the diver level certification. Each dive the confidence and comfort with the new equipment set up grew.
Racha Yai wreck
The last day, yesterday, brought us back in the classroom to complete the Emergency Oxygen provider course and finish off all required classroom stuff associated with the specialty training.
Racha Yai wreck
After that it was off to Kata beach again for a side mount instructor dive for Tanya and the Underwater naturalist dive for Yoann during which we combined Nitrox dives.
This was followed by a nice night dive, a great closure of all the diving and specialties we have completed over the last 4 days. Thanks Tanya and Yoann for the fun and the diving opportunity and to show you around in the specialty training world, it was my pleasure.

Now it's time to go home again for me and recharge for the next PADI IDC, scheduled to start 8th April in Khao Lak, Thailand which is followed by a program starting 2nd May on Gili Air in Indonesia, directly followed by a program scheduled to start 26th May in Moalboal in the Philippines and a home game scheduled to start 10th June on Koh Samui, Thailand.

Moalboal has a fantastic house reef with some awesome diving. You may have heard of the 'sardine runs' they have at Panagsama beach, the original and current location of PADI 5* IDC Center 'Neptune Diving Adventures'.
We are looking forward seeing you in Moalboal diving, courses and PADI IDC's taught by me.

Before you know you find yourself already halfway down the current PADI IDC in Phuket. Losing track of time, days and weeks is not uncommon during an IDC and it's no different in this current version.
Tanya during her skill circuit with a CESA
We've been busy covering most aspects, topics and areas of an IDC and we still have a few exciting and fun workshops and the Open Water dives ahead of us. Today was the first day of confined water presentations and there's more to come.
Yoann during rescue exercise # 7 in the pool
Yoann is also the first IDC candidate with a passport from the Bahamas in my IDC program, it's always nice to add a new nationality to the ever growing list of my students. Thanks for coming all the way from the Bahamas to participate in this IDC!
Just a few days more now and we can finish up this program and the the PADI IE will be lurking around the corner so stay tuned for more updates.

Yoann and Tanya battling it out with the theory exams
The first day is done and dusted and we had introductions, exams, presentations and a skill circuit in the pool on the menu. We finished the day off on Kata Beach with a nice and fresh mango shake, taking in the sights and enjoying a low end to the day.

Time for celebrations again with another 'PADI Certificate of Recognition for Excellence', this time coming from Jason Moustache who participated in the November 2013 PADI IDC in Khao Lak in Thailand.
It seems like they keep coming in hard and fast, just like last year. This is the second certification that I receive this year already, but I still have a long way to go to get anywhere near to the almost incredible figure of 8 certificates that I received last year.
Come and experience yourself the educational and fun PADI IDC's that I conduct. Your next opportunity is on very short notice, in two days time, 13th March, I start my first IDC in Phuket, Thailand, followed by an IDC which is scheduled to start 8th April on Koh Phangan in Thailand, which in turn is followed by an IDC starting 2nd May on Gili Air in Indonesia and then it's on to my first IDC in Moalboal in the Philippines. The remainder of my schedule for this year can be found here.

When the hard work of the PADI IDC on Gili Air in Indonesia is done, which is directly followed by a PADI IE, it's time to relax, kick back and do some fun things. Fun according to newly certified Instructors involves diving!
Never seen this fish before and am still doing research at Oceans 5 House reef on Gili Air in Indonesia. Tuns out it's a juvenile rock mover wrasse
This makes it a very small step towards specialty instructor training and we had a few dives before I left the island on my way back home to Thailand.
At depth at Shark Point at the Gili islands in Indonesia during the deep dive with Ian and Anton
The specialties that we covered included side mount, deep, digital underwater photography, underwater navigation, Nitrox and Emergency Oxygen provider. The latter doesn't involve diving though!
Color changes at depth during the deep dive at Soraya around the Gili Islands
Sander, the owner at PADI 5* IDC Center 'Oceans 5' on Gili Air and fellow PADI Course Director, will continue with more specialties and complete the training that I couldn't complete because I'm on the move to my next IDC program.
Safety stop after the deep dive at Shark Point at the Gili islands after a deep dive with Rose and Manon
Don't forget to check out my up and coming IDC dates around South East Asia, starting with 13th March on Phuket, Thailand, followed by 8th April on Koh Phangan in Thailand which is followed by an IDC scheduled to start 2nd May on Gili Air in Indonesia and that is followed by my first IDC in Moalboal in the Philippines and more to follow throughout the year, please check out my IDC schedule.

The hard work is over, the February PADI IDC on Gili Air has been completed and tomorrow it's show time when the PADI IE starts.
Confined water presentation
We've been working hard and got everything done what needs to be done and a bit more, except for Manon, who had a cold with sinus and ear problems, she didn't complete her open water presentation yet, so we give that one last shot in a few hours and we all hope she can equalize and get down so she can complete her skills.
Confined water lift bag workshop
We had lots of fun and we even received an unexpected visit by Paul 'Tosh' Tanner, PADI's Indonesian regional manager towards the end of the IDC.
Open water compass briefing, closely watched by Allen and Riet
Allen and Riet staffed and got valuable experience in evaluating along the way and were a great help for me. Thanks guys!
Open water presentation
We also had plenty of workshops during the IDC, here are some pix from the lift bag and know tying workshops.
Open water, knot tying workshop
The candidates are ready and full power and energy to tackle the next two days, they will be nerve wrecking, full of exams and evaluation, but that's a PADI IE for you but I'm confident that they will do just fine!
